Fix Auto’s Jeff Gordon Moment
March 25th, 2015 by Eli P
Catch the Auto Club 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup race in Fontana, California? It was a great event for all racing fans, but here at Fix Auto, we were more excited than most. Sure, we always get a thrill being on the car, but when the driver is four-time series champion and genuine legend Jeff Gordon – that’s the thrill of a lifetime.
As a proud sponsor of Jeff Gordon’s No. 24 Axalta Fix Auto Chevrolet SS, we get to be a part of the story at every turn. With the all-time great in his final season of competition, watching Gordon put on his usual bold display of driving skill at the Auto Club 400 felt special. His confidence behind the wheel of the car we’ve worked so hard to support made it all seem deeply worthwhile.
Gordon gained notice for a particularly daring moment pitting him against David Ragan’s No. 18 Toyota. Early in the race, with the two men battling for the seventh spot, Gordon trailed Ragan closely for several laps – putting on impressive bursts of speed in the back straightaway. But with Ragan stubbornly edging him out at every turn, Gordon had the kind of what-the-hell moment we can all identify with. “Let him know it’s the bumper,” Gordon said over his in-car radio. “I tried it the easy way; now it’s going to be the hard way for him.”
Gordon pressed hard, putting the nose of the car right up against the left side of Ragan’s rear panel. Eventually, although Gordon never made contact, he took the air right off him, and Ragan’s Toyota was sent sliding. No harm done to either car, but when the race restarted on Lap 27, Ragan was down to 42nd – and Gordon was holding that seventh spot.
Great race, Jeff – at Fix Auto, we’re proud to have played our part!
