When you purchase a new vehicle, you want to know that it’s safe, not only to protect yourself and your family, but also to protect your investment into the car. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gathers research regarding crash test results and assigns ratings based on the safety of the tested vehicles. Please note that all of these cars were named a Top Safety Pick+ winner, provided that the tested model had optional front crash prevention. Additionally, a superior crash prevention ranks above an advanced crash prevention. According to the IIHS, here are some of the top 15 safest cars available today.
Subaru Impreza.
From Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive to Eyesight® Driver Assist technology and smart braking systems, Subaru designs vehicles with your safety in mind.
Subaru Crosstrek.
The Crosstrek comes with seven airbags, including front, front seat side pelvis/torso, side-curtain and driver’s knee airbags. Its advanced system deploys the airbags in the most effective way possible.
Toyota Prius.
One of the most fuel-efficient cars on the road, the Prius comes with a suite of six advanced safety features that includes enhanced vehicle stability control, electronic brake-force distribution, Smart Stop Technology®, and more.
Subaru Legacy.
Among its many safety features, the Legacy offers optional Blind-Spot Detection and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert capabilities for hard-to-see driving situations.
Subaru Outback.
The Outback’s Vehicle Dynamics Control helps provide more stable handling, and also monitors steering and braking inputs to help keep the vehicle on the driver’s intended path.
Mazda 6.
Equipped with a suite of eight active safety features, the Mazda 6 offers radar cruise control to automatically maintain a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.
Infinity Q50.
Advanced safety technology on this luxury car includes active lane control, and predictive forward collision warning. The Q50 can see two cars ahead – even when you cant.
Acura TLX.
The TLX offer several features to improve child safety, including LATCH-compatible child seats and windows with an auto-reverse feature to prevent closing on small fingers.
Hyundai Genesis.
The Genesis features an Automatic Emergency Braking system that uses cameras and radar sensors to detect an impending crash and deploy auto braking if the driver fails to react.
Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
Offering a new era of driver assistance technology, E-Class cars come with the innovative “Attention Assist,” which can sense when the driver is getting drowsy.
Audi A6.
The A6 is built with a special manufacturing process that strengthens the car’s frame and helps to mitigate the force of impact during side collisions.
Subaru Forester.
The horizontal layout of the Forester’s engine permits a low center of gravity for improved handling response and helps protect the passenger area during front-end collisions.
Toyota Highlander.
The Highlander’s Blind Spot Monitor alerts the driver when a vehicle enters a blind spot on either side. The Rear Cross-Traffic Alert does the same when backing out of a driveway or parking spot.
Lexus NX.
With its optional Pre-Collision System, the NX can detect an imminent frontal collision, retract the front seatbelts, and deploy Brake Assist to help provide increased braking pressure when stepping on the brake pedal.
Toyota Sienna.
The Sienna offers the most standard airbags (8) in its class, as well as the Star Safety System, which includes six active safety features, such as traction control and brake assist.
