Runner Receives Heartfelt Surprise from Fix Auto Technician

Alaska resident Susan Marie Craig was leaving a swimming pool when she noticed that someone had backed into her car. There was significant damage and no note on her windshield. Craig was disappointed in the unkindness shown in the situation, but her disappointment would not last long.
Craig’s husband dropped her Volkswagen off at Fix Auto Soldotna and mentioned that she was upset about losing her bumper stickers. This is a common occurrence when a bumper needs to be replaced, and most technicians wouldn’t have thought twice about hearing the comment from a customer.
But when Craig arrived at Fix Auto Soldotna to pick up her car, the shop surprised her with a heartfelt gesture that meant a great deal to her. The three bumper stickers had been cut out of the original bumper and saved for her.
The saving of bumper stickers may not seem like a big deal to most, but to Craig, they represented years of hard work and important, life-altering experiences with her family. One bumper sticker was from Tsalteshi Trails Association, and two were from the Boston Marathon. Not only did the Boston Marathon bumper stickers represent countless hours of training, a great deal of motivation, and a lot of hard work for Craig, but they also remind her of her trip to the Boston Marathon the year after the bombings took place.
She took the trip with her husband Mark and their two daughters, Katie, 15, and Emma, 11. Craig recollects that they saw Boston as “a city that refused to let the unkindness of others affect their spirit,” which was no doubt inspiring. The trip also reminded her of the kindness that people did show in an effort to help others and rebuild the city in the aftermath of a great tragedy.
Craig notes that her car getting hit and the technician saving her bumper stickers were two events that went hand in hand, one event showing unkindness and the other showing the complete opposite. The heartfelt act by the technician at Fix Auto Soldotna made Craig’s bumper stickers even more significant and important to her.
