Fix Auto, Allstate Insurance, Portland Timbers Honor Wounded Vet

At Fix Auto, it’s not just about the cars – it’s also very much about the people. That’s one reason they joined with Allstate Insurance and the Portland Timbers to honor those who have bravely served our country during the soccer team’s Military Appreciation night. Consider the example of a young army veteran named Alex Hussey.
Like many veterans serving in the Middle East, Alex suffered a devastating injury from an IED (improvised explosive device). He lost both legs and one hand, and sustained several other lesser injuries. Alex spent two years in a hospital – nine months of it in a coma – and doctors did not expect him to survive.
When he did, doctors said he would never talk again and would be confined to a wheelchair the rest of his life. Showing steadfast courage and determination, Alex has since relearned how to speak, and is now starting rehab to learn how to stand and walk again. Through it all, he has inspired others with his amazingly positive attitude and sense of humor.
Alex’s uncle, who works at Fix Auto Gresham, relayed his story to Shon Kim, Fix Auto Gresham’s owner-operator. He immediately contacted the Portland Timbers to see if they could include Alex in the Military Appreciation night ceremonies on May 27th. They readily agreed.
The Timbers made special accommodations to have Alex attend the match, including inviting him onto the field during warm-ups. The players all came by to meet Alex, pose for pictures, and present him with an autographed team jersey before returning to their pre-game preparations. It was an evening Alex will long remember.
