15 Predictions for Cars in the Future
November 20th, 2014 by Eli P
Car predictions made in the past have been hit or miss. As technology changes and the automobile industry is racing to satisfy society, more predictions are being made daily regarding cars of the future. From simple and nearby forecasts to far off and exorbitant guesses, here are 15 predictions for cars in the future.
1. Fuel efficiency standards will become strict. By 2025, the government will require vehicles to have a fuel efficiency of 54.5 miles per gallon.
2. Very few V8 engines will be around. Instead, 4-cylinder engines will become more common until electric and alternatively fueled vehicles take over.
3. Hybrid and electric vehicles will become commonplace, as internal combustion engines are trying to be “phased out” in an attempt to decrease fuel use and save natural resources.
4. Our cars will be more connected—to traffic lights, other vehicles, gas stations, homes, and more. Traffic lights and stop signs may eventually become unnecessary as cars will be programmed to monitor and control traffic flow.
5. Cars will become smarter, possibly being able to detect and avoid collisions, alert drivers to potential traffic issues, integrate other appliances and electronics, and park themselves.
6. Wireless technology in cars will improve drastically, and electronic storage systems will become available in all vehicles to store music, movies, and more.
7. Keyless entry and keyless start up will become more prevalent. Owner-specific access options may also be available.
8. GPS will go even more viral—they’ll be standard in every vehicle, and they will allow you to find any car, any time, no matter where it is.
9. Video surveillance will be embedded into the interior and exterior of cars so that car theft becomes virtually impossible.
10. We will see more one-person vehicles, devised similarly to motorcycles but with more protection.
11. Driverless cars are on the horizon. No steering wheels, no driver’s licenses, no driving knowledge needed! Nissan claims they’ll have these ready to sell by 2020!
12. Car-sharing programs will become mainstream, especially when driverless cars are the norm.
13. Wheels will likely be made from organic materials or fatty material, or possibly be replaced by rollerballs.
14. Future vehicles will likely leave no carbon footprint whatsoever.
15. Cars will eventually fly and be able to travel in large bodies of water. This may be far off, but prototypes of these cars are already in the making.
