How to Keep Your Parked Car Cool in Summer

January 8th, 2020 by Fix Auto USA

How to keep your car cool

Getting into a vehicle that’s been sitting in the summer heat can be dreadful, from the warm stifling air to the hot to the touch seats. There are lots of ways you can beat the summer heat and stay cool when the hottest season of the year hits.

Park In The Shade

When you’re out in the summer heat, parking in the shade is a great way to lower the temperature in your vehicle. If you’re away from your parked car for an extended amount of time, it may be worth the extra walk to find a nice shady area to park in.

Use A Window Visor

For those times that you can’t find a shady place to park, using a sunshade or window visor is a great way to keep your car cool. They are readily available in different styles and patterns and are one of the best ways to beat the summer heat. If you’re parking for an extended amount of time, consider using one in your rear window as well.

Park In A Garage

If you have the chance to park in a garage, whether at home or a public garage, you should definitely do so. This keeps your vehicle out of direct sunlight, keeping the interior at a more manageable level.

Cover Your Dash and Steering Wheel

Touching hot vinyl surfaces can make driving in the summer heat a pain. Using a cloth steering wheel cover can protect your hands from extreme heat. Dash covers are a good way to not only combat excessive heat in your vehicle but also protect your dash from sun damage.

Crack Your Windows

Leaving your windows open just a crack is a great way to promote ventilation, which keeps your car cool. Make sure not to leave it open too far, especially if you’ll be away for an extended amount of time.

Cover Your Leather

Leather seats get extremely hot in the summer, especially if your vehicle has been sitting in direct sunlight. Consider purchasing cloth seat covers or even lay down a towel before leaving your car.

Tint Your Windows

Tinted windows can help keep the temperature of your vehicle down, but make sure to check the laws in your state before applying the window tint. Some states have restrictions on how dark windows can be and how many windows in your vehicle can be tinted.

Cool Your Car Before Driving

If possible, open your doors and let your car cool off before taking a drive.  Leaving your doors open for a few minutes can get the hot air out and bring the cool air in.
